Therapy for trauma in California & Minnesota

Are your days filled with memories of things you wish you could just forget?

Some days it feels like you are stuck in the past, no matter how hard you try to stuff those memories away. It might feel like your brain and body are always on high alert, even in the “safest” of environments. You may be oscillating between anxious and aware & numb and exhausted just to make it through the day. And worst of all, it doesn’t stop at night - restless sleep and nightmares make it nearly impossible for you to feel fully rested. Perhaps you’re feeling like you’re stuck in a world that is unsafe, unpredictable, and your hope is all but gone.

Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:

  • You avoid people, places, or things that remind you of stressful situations

  • You have strong physical reactions (heart pounding, hands shaking) when bad memories resurface

  • You suddenly feel (or even act) as though you’re reliving terrible events of the past

You’re ready to break free from trauma and truly thrive.

Frequently asked questions about trauma therapy

FAQs

  • I am a firm believer that in order to work through difficult things, a safe & strong therapy relationship is the first step to success. Once you feel safe and connected within the therapy relationship, you’ll notice that it’s a little less intimidating to tackle your problems because you don’t have to do this alone.

I use a unique approach of empathy, compassion, and a dash of humor (we can’t be serious all the time, right?) to help you navigate your stressors. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I also incorporate Accelerated Resolution Therapy. All of this is done at your own pace.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a technique that helps people feel better faster. It is incredibly effective for resolving trauma memories and symptoms. For some people, that means relief in as little as one ART session! I use a combination of traditional talk therapy and ART to approach trauma therapy.

  • Trauma is an emotional and physical response to a terrible event. The event may be a one-time scenario or repeated experiences over a series of time.

Immediately afterwards, you may feel shock or denial. More long-term symptoms might include flashbacks, unpredictable emotional reactions, nightmares, anxiety, shame, and guilt.

  • The types of trauma I can help you resolve includes (but is not limited to) the following situations:

    -Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse

    -Religious and spiritual abuse

    -Shootings & Targeted hate crimes

    -Vicarious (on the job) trauma

    -Traumatic death and loss
